Season 8
As an expression of appreciation for the constant help that housemaids offer MB residents with domestic chores like cleaning, cooking, doing laundry and minding children on the playground, the MBYC organised a matinee screening of the movie, 'Welcome' for them at Diwan-E-Aam on Friday, 15th July, 2022. To give the housemaids an authentic moviegoing experience, arrangements were made at Diwan-E-Aam to mimic an actual movie theatre; video was projected onto a wall roughly the size of a standard movie screen, speakers were set up to produce the effect of surround-sound, and chairs were laid out in straight consecutive rows. And, of course, that all-important ingredient for all movie-watching experiences – popcorn- was not forgotten. A team of eager volunteers kept up a constant supply of it throughout the duration of the movie. A total of 30 maids who turned up for the screening seemed to enjoy the movie but, more importantly, they seemed to enjoy their break from work and the affection and pampering they were showered with. Thus, MBYC found a nice way to say “Thank You” to our maids, even if it was with a movie titled “Welcome”.

The Workshop
Season 5
An enriching workshop with Dr Sandeep Atre, on the topic of understanding and taking care of your emotional health was conducted by Mahdi Bagh Youth Club (MBYC) Skills Group on 26th August 2022. At the outset, Aatif gave a brief introduction of MBYC and our guest speaker, Dr. Sandeep Atre - a renowned consulting psychologist and an internationally recognised emotional and social intelligence expert, the founder of Socialigence and the co-founder of CH EdgeMakers, a leading coaching group in central India. Starting with the session, Dr. Sandeep Atre dove right into the subject by citing examples from different movies to establish how it is of absolute importance for everyone to understand the importance of emotional intelligence in their lives and how among all the other life skills ,this deserves equal attention, if not more.  Conveying the definition of Emotional Intelligence as ‘the skill of understanding and regulating emotions’, he focused on 2 main concepts, with the aid of several video clips to drive home the point.  The first being - ‘Let’s give as much respect to emotions as we give to the thoughts’. He talked about the need for making and building connections and explained the difference between a contact and a connection. A contact is with whom we share factual information whereas with a connection we tend to share our emotional information. With this, he exhorted us to go out and meet people instead of exchanging messages over the phone, to create more meaningful connections.  The second point he mentioned was -  ‘The only way to deal with emotions is to process them’. Elaborating on this, Dr.Sandeep talked about the significance of expressing your emotions rather than keeping them inside and bottled up, to analyze and deliberate over them so you can feel empowered to change and fix the issues, as  unexpressed emotions can be a block to our life force and energy. At the end there was a very informative and engaging Q&A and feedback round and everyone was inspired to apply the key concepts in building better relationships.  The session concluded with the presentation of a certificate of appreciation from MBYC to Dr. Sandeep Atre while the participants received an e-certificate for their participation.
